Williams-Borden Neighborhood is named for two of the earliest landholders in the heart of Galveston Island. Our mission is to encourage preservation, revitalization, and neighborhood livability efforts within our boundaries, the surrounding community, and Galveston Island. WBNA serves not only as a community organization but also as an advocate for residents, property owners, and businesses.

Williams-Borden Neighborhood lies in the heart of Galveston Island, between Avenues M & S, from 35th to 39th Streets.

Editor’s Note:  Nancy Budde has created a marvelous online presentation about our neighborhood. You can view it all at once, or a little at a time. Please do take a look! We thank Nancy for her time and energy and look forward to her continued contributions.

The link will take you to a presentation about Williams-Borden.  It was created by Nancy Budde. Nancy and her husband Al bought a home in Williams-Borden this year and are looking forward to becoming active in the WBNA. It will take about an hour to see everything in the presentation but you can also look at it in small segments. We encourage you to complete the survey regarding neighborhood concerns and to provide any feedback you have. If you would like to add something, please forward that information to Nancy at flintbudde@gmail.com.  And please share the link with anyone who might want to learn a little more about our special neighborhood.
Happy Holidays!

Got Books?

Friends of Rosenberg Library could not hold the annual October book sale due to COVID restrictions, so they are having smaller topic-specific sales in the Book Shop on the second floor of the library. Through December 23 they have a huge array of gently-used and near-new COOKBOOKS at excellent prices, plus other holiday-related books, and the usual offerings of affordable gently-used books. The Book Shop is open during library hours, daily except Sunday from 9 AM to 5:45 PM. Masks and social distancing, of course. “Friends” functions only to support Rosenberg Library and its activites; see their website HERE.

Title –By Laws

WBNA Bylaws approved 1

We hope all are well in this period of reopening the community. Many of us are venturing out more, while others remain at home due to health concerns. Visitors are certainly back on the Island!  We hope the predictions that the virus will lessen during warm and humid weather come true. Heat and humidity are here already!

On this Memorial Day we honor those lost in their service to the country. We are also reminded of those whose lives have been lost to COVID, both near and far. And we again thank those who are still on the front lines against the pandemic as the provide us with food, protection, city services, communication, and health care.

In walks and travels around the neighborhood we are amazed at our trees!  We may have the finest tree canopy on the Island right here in Williams-Borden. While we had significant tree losses in Ike, it was not as devastating as that in some neighborhoods. And we have continued to add new ones, through visits to garden centers, gifts, and the Galveston Island Tree Conservancy tree giveaways and NeighborWoods plantings. By the way the NeighborWoods planned for March has been rescheduled for Fall, all we need is a volunteer coordinator to get free streetside trees in our area.

SO…..let’s have a tree celebration!  Please send photos of your favorite trees–yours or a neighbor’s–in Williams-Borden, with location.  You can “reply” to this email and attach a photo. We will share them in our next newsletter.  Here’s hoping we can meet again soon.  Stay safe everyone!
